Rainbow Brights

The sun might not shine this summer, but there is a silver lining to that drizzly grey cloud- a kaleidoscope of colour in shadows and lippies to banish the weather blues and make them every colour under the sun.

Whether the sun shines this summer or not, the flashes of bold colour that sprung up on SS12’s catwalks are enough to brighten even the drabbest of days; with looks veering from the riotous crimson glows to the subtlest cheek contours.

Pucker up those lips and taste the rainbow. Get Anna Sui’s all over crimson glow or Prabal Gurung’s rose-stained ombre mouths for a really dramatic look. Or give your smackers a touch of class like Margaret Howell and Nicole Farhi with a subtle velvety rouge pout. Wear it lined and primed or flawlessly feather your lippy, keeping the edges blurred and feathered and then add Red Pigment at the centre to accentuate the ombre effect. Try: Bobby Brown Rich Lip Color SPF 12 in Guava; £18.

If your peachy-keen then get in on the season’s hottest hue and look to Preen for inspiration – their peach-melba palette will melt into your skin for a flattering flush of colour. Try: ‘Head Over Heels’ blusher; £6 at Topshop.

If you’d rather save the statement for your eyes, choose from tropical tints, dusty lilac stripes or cherry red chromas. For Todd Lynn’s dusty lilac lids leave skin and lips neutral to balance this statement hue. Try: Woodstock by Urban Decay at £10.

Cool aqua hues are flying off the cosmetic shelves so slick the shade on your peepers: dare to be different in an effervescent 80s throwback taking the colour sky-high to the brows or team a pop of the colour with a sleek and chic up-do. Try: Mac Eye Shadow in Aquadisiac; £12.

If you follow Miu Miu’s make-up trends then you’ll be donning shades of red to your eyes this summer. I cannot stress enough that you should only choose pigmented shadows when applying red to your peepers. Now if you have darker skin it’s simple: slick on some rusty reds, warm plums, and saturated crimsons to rock the trend. However, for everyone else be wary – try a cheeky eye liner or adding shades of red to smoky eyes blending the hue into the outer corner of the eye to add depth and colour to a classic look. Try: Barry M’s Dazzle Dust in ‘Hot Spice’; £4.59.

Proving there’s a pot of gold at the end of every rainbow is the grandiose gold foiling trend; try out full on gold leaf make-up – but keep this one strictly for special occasions girls, only Lady Ga Ga’s allowed this look in broad day light.

I can see a rainbow; wanna see a rainbow too?
