Sport Luxe

Sport Luxe: a look that transcends almost perfectly from the catwalk to high street – and it’s exactly what you should be sporting this summer. But don’t sweat it you still have one day before the official start of the Olympics to get your trainers in check and your totes inclining from your shoulders.

For Marc Jacobs it was baseball, for Peter Pilotto it was diving, and for Acne it was motocross. This isn’t about looking like you’ve just stepped out of the gym – instead, aim to capture the natural, organic style of dancers, gymnasts and athletes, and give it a high fashion twist.

Get set with sporty separates, metallic blousons, chic sweats, body-con pencil skirts and sheaths – as they make a timely return for the Olympics this summer. Kick off the look with a simple but serious palette: think graphic white, metallic hues, crimson reds and royal blues.

All the high street stores have kick started the race towards the London 2012 Olympics dropping a plethora of sporty styles into stores in the past few months. Meaning cycling shorts are suddenly chic.

Keep an eye out for racer-front vests, two-tone, crop tops and this season’s must-have, the wedge hi-top trainer. Team loose, jersey trousers with a draped, racer back vest and wedge-style plimsolls.  Or look for layered dresses by brands such as Acne and Day Birger et Mikkelsen, who have championed this trend.

For a more formal finish, work in tailored jackets, skirts or trousers, or my key piece, the body-con dress.

Okay fashionistas, so it’s on your marks, get set…
