What’s my body shape and what should I wear?

What’s my body shape and what should I wear?

Sometimes it can be quite a challenge finding clothes that suit and flatter a person’s body shape.  There is a huge selection of garments for us to wear and it can be very daunting, but once you’ve got it right, you will never look back.

There are 3 main body types; apple, pear and hourglass.  These three pretty much cover everyone’s body shape in one way or another.

Apple:

If you’re an apple, you’re most likely to have a rounded stomach, big bust, slim hips, a great bum and gorgeouApple Body Shapes legs.  To dress this body shape it’s important to bare a few important pieces of information in mind.

Wear clothes that sculpt your midriff.  This will make you look less like an apple and more like an apple core.  Draw attention to your assets, bust, legs and anything else you feel confident about.     Body control underwear will also really help to define and control your waist area.  DON’T hide in big, baggy trousers.  Wear trousers like boot-leg or straight leg to show off your legs or ones which are high-waisted as they attention will no longer be on your middle.

Wrap dresses are brilliant as they suit a fuller bust and any detail on the side of the dress will draw attention away from the stomach.  Opening up the neckline will accentuate the apple shaped body’s great bust.  Don’t be afraid to show this beautiful feature off! Structured jackets can provide a huge amount of shape for the upper body.   A-line skirts will reduce the appearance of the waistline. Finally, do NOT be afraid to splash a bit of colour into your outfit!  The colours and patterns will highlight your best bits and make you feel fabulous!

Pear:

Pear shaped body is the classic body shape with hips/thighs/bum slightly bigger than they Pear Body Shapeupper half along with having great shoulders and boobs!

You have a slim top half, so show that body off!  Wear strapless tops and dresses.  Also embellished strappy tops are brilliant as they will show off those lovely arms and shoulders.  Don’t wear clothes which are too long, you need to be very wary of the length, jackets that cut off above the hip line will create a much more flattering look.

To minimise those wider hips you should wear dark block colours on your bottom half.  These will help elongate the legs and help your hips look more balanced.   To synch your waist in or show off that slim waist, place a thin belt across the smallest part.  This will really help show it off.   Also if you are a  skirt wearer, wear skirts which have pleats at the front, these skim over the hips and hugely elongate the appearance of your legs, whilst also making your waist look smaller.

Hourglass Body Shape

Hourglass:

Hourglass body shapes have curvy bust and hips with a slim waist.

A-line skirts paired with a fitted tank top or tee will help show off your fabulous hourglass figure.   Peplum detail on skirt can help exaggerate and show off these curvy hips you have!  The most flattering type of skirt is a pencil skirt; this style skirt can be worn with a simple shirt tucked in to show off those gorgeous curves.   Straight-legged jeans will skim the thighs and the cropped at the ankle jeans also work very well for this style figure.  As an alternative high-waisted and wide-legged trousers will really show of the curves of your hips.  Fitted clothes are a go but make sure they aren’t too tight so they flaunt your figure.
