Tony Scott remembered in private Los Angeles funeral

Tony Scott

Relatives of director Tony Scott, including his brother Ridley, have gathered in Los Angeles this weekend for a private funeral service.

Scott, who directed such acclaimed movies as Top Gun and True Romance, jumped to his death from a bridge in the city on August 19.

Some inital reports suggested that Scott may have been diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumour just before his death, but these reports have since been denied by both a coroner and by his relatives.

The director may not have had as much critical success as his elder brother, but his films were often extremely popular with audiences. His production company, Scott Free, also oversaw the production of several hit TV shows including Numb3rs and  The Good Wife.

At the time of his death, Scott was apparently discussing a sequel to Top Gun with its star, Tom Cruise, but it’s unknown whether production will go ahead in light of recent events.

Since news of Scott’s death broke on Monday morning, the internet has been filled with messages and tweets from fans and actors who have worked closely with Scott, including frequent collaborator Denzel Washington and writer and actor Stephen Fry.
