Review: THB Bahia Apartments San Antonio, Ibiza

The White Isle of Ibiza is notorious for its summers of dance music and super clubs. With this comes a number of resorts and an abundance of hotels to choose from. One major area known for its party scene is San Antonio; I ventured there this summer and stayed at the THB Bahia Apartments.

Located right on the seafront and the Maritime Avenue, the hotel has a fantastic location that’s just a five minute walk from the main strip of bars and popular clubs Eden and Es Paradis. This means that it’s far enough away from all the action to allow for relaxing during the day, yet close enough to stroll to the bars in the evening. A further pleasant surprise was the fact that the hotel is now linked with the Ocean Beach Club. New to Ibiza for 2012, the Ocean Beach Club is a glamorous day bar that offers pool parties, dancers and sun beds with waiter service. This partnership allows for hotel guests to enjoy the luxury of a special entrance into the club and unlimited free entry – reserving a sun bed however, comes at a cost (from 10 Euros).

The hotel itself offers 63 rooms, each with standard amenities and a large balcony – some boasting views of the swimming pool and beach. Our room was made up of a large twin bedroom, a living area (consisting of sofa bed, dining area and kitchenette) and a reasonably sized bathroom. There was also a safety box charged at 3 Euros per day to use – this charge was counteracted by the fact that the hotel provides free Wi-Fi that covers the bedrooms, reception and pool area.

One of the highlights of the hotel is the pool area as it’s very large and overlooks both the Ocean Beach Club and the beach itself. Another plus is that it isn’t sheltered by any surrounding buildings, so the majority of the sun beds are bathed in the sun all day long. There is a pool bar that offers alcoholic beverages, soft drinks (2.50 Euros), crisps (2.50 Euros) and pizzas (from 7 Euros) throughout the day. A full bar menu is provided for lunch time hours. Another bar can be found in the reception area which also offers: a pool table, arcade games, a foosball table and somewhere to buy club tickets.

Due to its new association with the Ocean Beach Club, the hotel is due for a refurbishment in time for the 2013 season. This will see the hotel transformed into a more glamorous ocean theme and – combined with its spectacular location – has the potential to be the most stunning hotel in the area.
