This week my boyfriend took me to Serpentine bar & kitchen

The sun may be a distant memory now that the winter weather has crept in, but I would like you to think back to that beautiful week of hot English sun. It was in the middle of August (for those of you who don’t remember!) and I had just completed my work experience at Bauer Media. So my boyfriend wanted to take me out to celebrate for potentially getting my name on a feature in Take a Break.

Sitting inside on such a hot day was never going to be okay and especially when London looks so much prettier in the rich sunlight. So he chose the Serpentine Bar & Kitchen.

Away from the hustling bustling sights of London, Serpentine Bar and Kitchen is hidden in the quiet rural scenery of Hyde Park. For those of you who have never been there, it is most ideal for those sunny days as the majority of the sitting area is outside. With a range of deck chairs and picnic tables spread across the side of the Serpentine Lake.

We arrived just in time for lunch, and the places was packed full of hungry customers. There was a queue of them eagerly waiting for the burgers and sausages on offer at the front, coming straight off the wood fire oven. We squeezed in between the picnic tables to two deck chairs facing the scenic lake – perfect (if you hid the floating dead bird behind the table)!

The head chef Jack executes his menu based on his current inspirations of the English and French cuisine. The meals available range from a chicken and herb filled broth, classic fish and chips, truffled macaroni and a gourmet lamb rump with fondant potato and spinach. There is also a range of different pizzas from the pepperoni and jalapeno peppers, to the classic tomato, oregano and mozzarella. If you don’t fancy a huge meal there is a small selection of sandwiches and salads, the fish finger butty or the classic Greek salad. There are also sides of olives, bread board and chips etc.

We opted for their classic pepperoni pizza to share and a glass of orange juice each. The waiting time for our meal to arrive was bearable with the view of people on pedalos and boats crossing the lake in front. As well as the unfortunate incident of seeing a man fully clothed falling into the water trying to get on their friend’s boat. There’s always something going on, and the view helps it top the other restaurants in the city center. Despite the view, the food helps here too. The pizza arrived piping hot and delicious, and there was enough for us both.

Now it may be weird telling you about an ideal restaurant for a sunny day. Especially now that we are now in the middle of October. However I am writing this to you in the hope of an Indian summer just like last year! Now with my fingers, toes and eyes crossed I will be returning back to this restaurant before the year is out! One can hope.
