Last Chance For Wenger

Arsenal may have restored their pride against Bayern Munich, but when they get back on the plane to London they will still be without a trophy for eight years and fourth place to fight for.

For Arsene Wenger it is now a case of qualify for the Champions League or lose his job. Plenty of Arsenal fans will argue that for his contributions, Wenger deserves the time to turn it around but the reality is he is the one who got them into the position they are now in.

The news surrounding Jack Wilshere’s ankle injury is another blow for the Frenchman who is running out of options in mid-field with the Gunners lacking strength in-depth.

Tomas Rosicky showed he isn’t capable of filling the void left by Wilshere with several loose passes along with a general lack of creativity in the final third. When this is coupled together with the poor form of Giroud the challenge faced by Arsenal to finish fourth is massive.

With ten games left and the two most difficult on paper being against Everton and Manchester United, Arsenal are still in with a shout of scraping fourth spot. Chelsea’s congested fixture list may aid their efforts but the likelihood of it being enough remains to be seen.

The only thing Arsenal can do now is continue from where they left of tonight and take that spirit into their next game, away at Swansea and to use the old football cliché, take it one game at a time.
