Much Ado About Nothing

Although he’s spent most of the last year immersing himself in the Marvel universe to create the year’s most successful film, Avengers Assemble, it seems Joss Whedon has somehow also found the time to create his own interpretation of the William Shakespeare classic, ‘Much Ado About Nothing’.

Fans of Whedon’s other work (which I consider myself to be) will be very familiar with the actors of ‘Much Ado’ as they been cast from his various alumni. It is Amy Acker (Angel, Dollhouse) and Alexis Denisof (Angel, Mr. Alyson Hannigan) who take the leading roles of Beatrice and ¬Benedict.

For people unfamiliar with the original text, Much Ado’ is a comedy about two pairs of lovers, Beatrice and Benedict and Claudio and Hero. Beatrice and Benedict freely express their disdain for love, marriage and each other, battling in a ”merry war” of the sexes, unlike Claudio and Hero who are ‘head over heels’ in love.

The movie was filmed almost entirely at Joss’s home in LA, in only twelve days and using the original text, which was an important element because Joss Whedon states that ” the entire production was a love letter – to the text, to the cast, even to the house it’s shot in.”
MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING will be released in the UK and Ireland on 14th June 2013.
