Wayne Rooney – is he on his way out of Old Trafford

Has Wayne Rooney played in his last season at Manchester Utd? Only he and Alex Ferguson know that answer. Ever since the falling out several seasons ago, their relationship has not been what it once was between student and teacher.

After a couple of months it had seemed the club had managed to persuade their top striker to stay at the club. The club managed to tie their top star player down to a £120,000 per week deal and all seemed well for now. With Rooney in high form and scoring almost every game, everything at the club seemed well and things were back to normal. But from the beginning of this season with the signing of Robin Van Persie and Javier Hernandez as reliable as ever, has Ferguson been secretly setting up for life without Rooney?

With rumours rife that the star and his manager can find no common ground in their relationship, it may not come as a surprise if the player does leave – Ferguson is historically not scared to sell players with whom his relationship has broken down, take David Beckham for example; he was at the top of his game when an incident in the dressing room caused such a rift between player and manager and he was soon shipped off to Real Madrid in the summer.

Is this pattern emerging again between Fergie and Rooney? Only they know but in recent weeks Rooney has been substituted more and more foten towards the end of games which he was not in top form, is this a sign of him coming to terms with his exit only the summer will tell.

Stay tuned to find out.
