Exclusive with Rylan Clark: “Expect a lot of changes in Big Brother”

The official start to the summer has arrived. Yes, Big Brother is back. New hosts, new decor, new housemates and even a new name have really whetted the appetite for the dedicated and hardcore of Big Brother lovers out there – including my mother.

Big Brother Secrets & Lies is the new name, promises not just new twists, but be the most twisted in the show’s history. Promoted from Bit On The Side, new host Emma Willis has already shown her excitement. So has new number two Rylan Clark.

“I’m really excited! I’ve jointed the Big Brother family full time. I’ve always been the biggest fan of the show and to me, doing this job, is important.”

So what can we expect? Well…

“The series isn’t Big Brother this year, its Secrets and Lies. That’s all I can say,” he said quite cagily.  “You’re definitely going to expect the biggest series of Big Brother there’s even been. This year, you’re more in control than ever. There’s going to be a lot of changes.”

Shocking moments in the past included the introduction of Jackie Stallone, Becky’s Judas Kiss and Makosi’s jacuzzi-romp with Anthony. This year promises more fireworks and shocks than ever before, and I don’t just mean the electric shock suits.

“There’s going to be a lot of changes on Bit On The Side too. I’ve got my own new show which is going out on Sunday lunchtimes on top, quite similar to what T4 used to be. It’s going to be full of Big Brother with massive music acts, including The Saturday.” Including Emma Willis’s big long microphone? “I’m not sure actually. I don’t know what’s going on when it comes to what I’ll be holding.” I’ll leave that open to interpretation.

It wasn’t just Big Brother Rylan has been tipped to present. Earlier in the year, he was one of the favourites to take over from Olly Murs on the Xtra Factor. “Obviously, I’m from X Factor so that’s my roots, but I’m happy with what I’m doing right now but I’d never say never to anything.”
