Fashion’s Newest Icons

We’re halfway through 2013 and there have been plenty of occasions for the celebs to show off their style. The likes of Alexa Chung and Marion Cotillard continue to come out on top but a few newbies have shot up to join them with their impressive wardrobe choices.

Poppy & Cara Delevingne

The Delevingne sisters have proved that they’re here to stay. Models Cara and Poppy couldn’t dress more differently if they tried. Poppy’s feminine fashion features straight off the catwalk couture dresses while her relaxed looks consist of denim and a fitted blazer mixed with the hottest accessories around. Casual and androgynous are two words that sum up Cara’s look. Colour and bold prints used to be her signature style but lately, black has been her first choice for the red carpet. A custom made DKNY jumpsuit, a Roberto Cavalli tuxedo or a Burberry gown – whatever Cara wears, she is guaranteed to look fierce.

The Olsen Trio

Mary-Kate and Ashley need no introductions but it’s Elizabeth Olsen who has stolen the limelight. Actress Elizabeth is frequently seen wearing her sisters’ label, The Row, but shows that she wants to make her own mark by not following in her sibling’s vintage footsteps. Unsurprisingly, Mary-Kate and Ashley continue to captivate with their never-ending array of vintage couture pieces.

Hailee Steinfeld

Star of True Grit and the up-and-coming Romeo and Juliet, Hailee has demonstrated that she is no average 16 year old. She has been inundated with designer dresses and being the face of Miu Miu means even more requests to catwalk shows and red carpet events. Hailee has recently favoured Sportmax and wowed the crowd with her colour coordinated blue outfit but it was her cardigan and leather pencil skirt combo for the Chanel SS13 couture show that topped it all off.

Suki Waterhouse

Suki Waterhouse’s trademark was her playful 60s vibe but this year, she has modernised her style with a variety of Burberry trench coats. Printed or metallic – Suki has worn them all and subsequently strengthened her position as a current style icon.

Kerry Washington

Kerry’s recent films have led her to a great number of events and that means a lot of outfits. She has definitely not shied away from high fashion gowns or bright colours with her canary yellow Jason Wu and her printed Giles. Kerry also wore this season’s colour in her white accessories that she teamed with a pale Louis Vuitton checked dress.

Carey Mulligan

Carey has completely mixed it up in the past 6 months with jumpsuits, long dresses and short dresses. But they all have one thing in common: their simplicity. Carey chooses to wear block colours in monochrome or a simple bright such as red. The interesting shape of her Balenciaga jumpsuit made it a stand-out piece and Carey a stand-out woman.

Solange Knowles

Forget Beyonce. Solange is the one to look out for. Her love of matching prints and citrus colours has been seen numerous times and her mantra of ‘white is the new black’ is totally on trend.

Anne Hathaway

From cutting her hair to dying it platinum blonde, Anne has shocked us all this year. It seems that the result of this change is that her fashion choices have got much bolder and braver. Anne can work any look: the gothic black, the hot pink, the saintly white. Her dresses stick to the same shape – straight and fitted – but this works for her so keep it up, Anne!

Tinie Tempah
