Review: About a Girl by Lindsey Kelk

I’ve been a huge fan of Lindsey Kelk since I read her first novel ‘I heart New York’, which is the first installment of the I Heart series, and was so excited to learn she was releasing a new book just in time for summer.

About a Girl follows Tess Brookes, a workaholic who’s in love with her best friend and has to live with evil photographer flatmate, Vanessa, who makes Tess’ life very difficult.

Soon into the novel, Tess loses her job (while thinking she was about to receive a promotion) and her world begins to fall apart. That is until she pretends to be Vanessa while answering a call from Vanessa’s agent and accepts a photo commission in Hawaii.

Kelk’s way with words transports you straight to the island, with beautiful descriptions of the exotic scenery which really come to life. Hawaii is definitely on my wish list of places to travel now!

As expected, it’s not plain sailing for Tess during her stint abroad and drama unfolds in her love life, friendships and career. The book leaves a few questions unanswered so I can’t wait to find out what happens next for Tess.

This is a perfect summer read and I’d recommend it to anyone who’s looking for an escape from everyday life.
