What to Wear to an Autumn Wedding

Most of our wedding invites tend to be for the summer months and with brides wanting to give themselves the best chance of securing a dry day, some weddings fall at other times. Autumn weddings can be gorgeous affairs with the amazing colour palette of the season providing a naturally beautiful backdrop and sunshine on a cool, crisp day can be refreshing and inspiring. The classic wedding guest outfits might not be quite right for the climate though. Avoid the temptation of layering up in bulky, unflattering layers and dull colours and enjoy the shades of the season and autumns on trend palette to bring your autumn wedding look to life.

Which hue will do?

Autumn is jam-packed with gorgeous colours that are anything but dull. Think about wines, olives, burnt orange and reds and you have the idea. There is no reason not to embrace these colours of nature and create the perfect autumnal look. If you prefer something even brighter then have no fear. The designers have predicted that bold shades such as cobalt blue, deep purple and bright yellow will be on trend this autumn winter too so there are plenty of gorgeous tones to choose from. Don’t be tempted to slip into winter thinking by choosing dull greys and blacks – weddings are all about colour so make the most of it.

Best dressed

Dresses are the classic choice for weddings. They’re practical, pretty and, on the whole, comfortable. For cooler days, there are some great jersey styles out there that can be dressed up for special occasions. Something like the Bonmarché Blossom Print Tulip Wrap Dress with its pretty print will certainly get you noticed and have you feeling body confident. Shift dresses are another good choice as they’re available in more tailored fabrics for cooler days and they have a great way of creating a slight hourglass figure with their clever shaping. Whichever dress style you choose, for autumn the chances are you’ll need to add tights. Stick to naturals for the best look and always carry a spare pair!

Try something different

These days trousers are more than acceptable for women for any occasion and a wedding on a cooler day is a chance to try something new. It’s easy to dress trousers up to look every bit as glamorous as a dress and the chances are you’ll get plenty of wear out of your trousers after the big day too, so a worthwhile investment. There are two styles which are best for dressing up to the max. Wide legs can be ultimately elegant and create a very unique style for the day. Wear them with heels for an effect that elongates rather than truncates your legs. Max out the wedding outfit appeal with a gorgeous floaty blouse tucked in. If you’re going with black or navy trousers then make sure your top and accessories are super colourful. Something like polka dots is a stunning and classically wedding print that is a failsafe option.

Cropped Capri trousers are another good choice for autumn. For a wedding go for kitten heels for a touch of glamour and pair with a neat fitted jacket for a co-ordinating look. Again here your top and accessories must showcase some fabulous bright colours to ensure you look wedding and not office.

Cover up

Autumn weddings bring the chance of cooler temperatures so always carry a gorgeous wrap that complements your colour palette. You’ll be glad you did particularly when the evening sets in. Also, it’s a wise idea to prepare for rain too. The last thing you want is to put together a stunning outfit and hair do, only to look like a drowned rat by the time to get to the church. Invest in a pretty umbrella and if it looks certain to rain, then why not also a stunning mac. These are available in such an amazing variety of prints and colours that you will almost certainly find one to help you stand out in the crowd.

Accessories

Wedding dressing is all about accessories and these are great fun to experiment with too. A pretty scarf or wrap is a perfect autumn partner, while you can add extra touches of colour with bold jewellery and a clutch bag.
