Movie Review: White House Down

I don’t know about you, but ever since I heard Channing Tatum was appearing in another upcoming blockbuster I have been waiting, and waiting, and finally the moment has arrived!

I’ve seen this film twice and it gets even better the second time. I like watching things twice as you always notice moments you might have missed before.

Roland Emmerich’s White House Down (not to be confused with Olympus Has Fallen) is an action-packed, American based movie. John Cale- a US Marine (Channing Tatum) is on a tour of the much loved, historical building- The White House, with his young daughter Emily Cale when a heavily armed paramilitary group have planned to invade The White House and take everybody within it’s walls, hostage. John Cale went for a ‘job interview’ to be part of the Secret Service team to protect the President of the United States of America however didn’t get the job. Emily Cale, being a keen ‘YouTube-er’ ends up meeting the President in the White House Tour (we wish) and he records a blog with her for her YouTube Channel. This YouTube channel comes in handy when it comes to being the ‘eyes on the inside’ and posting the videos of all the intruders so everyone on the outside can see. It doesn’t look good when their faces are captured on the news and they realise the girl that recorded these is on the inside. John Cale does everything to save his daughter, and the President- Sawyer (Jamie Foxx), chosen to fit the Obama image I’m guessing. Cale is the only one who can stand up against the intruders and stop them from killing the hostages including his daughter and the President, along with shredding their goals of global devastation.

It’s a high- adrenaline filled movie that will keep you on the edge of your seat. It’s a must-see movie, and if you’re a movie goer that like a good action packed movie with thrills and suspense then this is the movie for you.

Banter is definitely there between Cale and Sawyer and that’s not surprising showing their good friendship ‘behind the scenes’. Channing Tatum was a great choice for the lead role as we’ve all see his humorous side in 21 Jump Street and Magic Mike, but also his loving and serious image in Dear John and The Vow. Jamie Foxx is equally as entertaining for the role of the President providing some added humour, fun twists and plenty of jokes. The duo deliver many worthwhile, unforgettable character moments. It wasn’t that ‘I knew that was coming’ film, definitely not predictable. There are plenty of twists and turns to keep you guessing throughout the whole movie.
