Autumn/Winter Skincare and Beauty Buys

As the seasons change, my skin senses the imminent cold weather before I do. We all know that we have to change tact in the autumn and winter months in terms of our beauty and skincare regimes; but it’s one of my favourite times of year. The cold, crisp months ahead are best paired with beautiful skin and a bold lip- so here are just some of the many products available on the market to help with achieving this.

For the face- Liz Earle’s Cleanse and Polish has been a holy grail product of mine since I was 15. Whilst its gentle and extremely soothing for the days where cold winds have got the better of your skin- you are also left in no doubt that it cleans deep into the pores, and leaves skin looking refreshed and bright. Best paired with Liz Earle’s Instant Boost Skin Tonic- beautiful skin is easy, day or night. In the summer, I’m somewhat ashamed to admit that I have tended to skip the moisturising step on the road to great skin- finding that most moisturisers were too heavy for my skin- until I discovered Clarins Hydra Matte Lotion. For those of you with combination skin who struggle to get moisturising right- say goodbye to bothersome dry patches! Guaranteed to banish those dry patches, whilst helping to keep oily skin at bay throughout the day.

For the lips- One of my favourite things about this time of year is the appeal of a bold lip. I often feel that I need to keep my make-up to a minimum in the summer time and embrace the ‘barely there’ look- but in the autumn/winter seasons its surely time to go all out. MAC offer a massive range of bolder, deeper colours to suit all complexions- and one of my personal favourites is Rebel. A satin finish, the application of this lipstick is very smooth. It does stain the lip- something I personally love, although not for everyone. The colour is described as a ‘mid-tone cream plum’ and I think it lives up to its description. Of course, plum tones aren’t for everyone- and a red lip never goes a miss. I’m somewhat of a MAC addict, and you really are spoilt for choice when choosing your perfect red from their extensive collection. Russian Red is particularly beautiful, as is Ruby Woo. For those who prefer a natural lip- you can never go wrong with a Clarins Natural Lip Perfector. Creating glossy, smooth lips in a flash- it lives up to the hype.

For nails- In the summer I embrace pastel hues in an arguably overenthusiastic manner, and am always sad to put them to rest for the colder months. However, this autumn/winter is a different story- with pink as the colour of the moment, and definitely my colour of choice. Any easy way to tap into the pastel pink trend this party season is with nail varnish. Kill two birds with one stone and look to Topshop’s matte nail polish in Dulcet; a beautiful pink with a matte finish- my nails have never looked so good.

For the hands- I often overlook hand skincare and how important it is to keep our hands protected throughout the winter months. I have always been put off by the sticky residue that hand cream seems to leave behind, until I discovered L’occitane’s shea butter hand cream. Winner of multiple awards including Best Hand Cream in Harper’s Bazaar ‘Beauty Hot 100 List’, this hand cream is arguably one of the best on the market. The formula, containing 20% shea butter, leaves hands soft and smooth, and is absorbed rapidly- say goodbye to rough, chapped hands and hello to hand heaven!

If there’s one thing we can do in the coming months without feeling guilty, it’s to over indulge and treat ourselves. Your bank balance may suffer- but your skin certainly won’t. Happy shopping!
