Best Of The Red Carpet 2013

It’s that time of year again! We are just days away from the Golden Globe Awards, the red carpet event that kicks it all off, and the anticipation is heating up. Expect some pretty impressive gowns from the equally impressive list of nominees, and of course, the fabulous hosts, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler.

From last year’s Globes to the Emmys in September, we saw a endless array of flawless gowns, so let’s take a look back at 10 of the best red carpet looks of 2013. You won’t find any fashion victims here.

Carey Mulligan
10. Carey Mulligan

She stunned all over the world at numerous ‘Gatsby’ premieres this year in Lanvin and Nina Ricci, but it was her stunning ivory Christian Dior gown at the premiere of The Great Gatsby in Cannes that really made an impact. Channeling the same grace and beauty as her jazz-age counterpart, Daisy Buchanan, Carey wowed the crowds with her understated yet flawless luxe look.

Lily Collins
9. Lily Collins

It’s been an exciting year for Lily on the red carpet. From the Met Gala to the Teen Choice awards; designers have been clamouring over one another for the newcomers undivided fashion attention. Her blue Zuhair Murad gown that she was spotted wearing at the Vanity Fair after-party was nothing short of spectacular. We had better keep an eye on Ms Collins in 2014. Soon, she’ll be taking every red carpet by storm.

Jessica Chastain

. Jessica Chastain

It was always going to be tough trying to top 2012’s effort… (that stunning black and gold embroidered Alexander McQueen gown will go down in Oscar history) but boy did she do it! Jessica may have missed out on the Academy Award for her performance in Zero Dark Thirty but she certainly didn’t miss out in that incredible custom Armani Prive. No one oozes the golden sophistication of Hollywood quite like Jessica.

Taylor Swift
7. Taylor Swift

Has Taylor Swift ever had a bad red carpet? No, seriously… Has she? She was one of the real stand outs at February’s Grammy Awards in this enchanting J Mendel gown, and playful braided hairstyle. Nearly a week later, she stepped out in a smouldering black cut out Elie Saab number at the Brit Awards – If anyone knows how to flaunt it after a break up, it’s T-Swift.

Sofia Vergara
6. Sofia Vergara

It’s not a worthy red carpet if Sofia Vergara isn’t threatening to spill out of her figure-hugging gown. And boy, she never disappoints! In the most flawless shade of red, vivacious Sofia sent everyone at the 2013 Emmy Awards into full on meltdown! Her lace Vera Wang masterpiece flattered every angle of her body and was accompanied by those incredible Lorraine Schwartz jewels. All $7 Million worth.

Cara Delevigne
5. Cara Delevigne

The embodiment of ‘Chaos to Couture’, supermodel of the hour Cara Delevigne was the be all and end all of the Punk themed 2013 Met Gala. She wowed in a sleek black studded Burberry gown; hair braids and smokey eyes, and with that quirky personality to match. Just a week later, she took the same effortless vampy glamour to Cannes Film Festival, in another black floor length Burberry gown. Can Cara do no wrong?

Naomi Watts
4. Naomi Watts

One of the stand outs of the 2013 Awards Season… She worked old Hollywood glam in Marchesa at the SAG Awards, and stunned in futuristic Versace at the Oscars. And she deserves a special mention for her entire ‘Diana’ promotion circuit wardrobe – Versace, Marchesa, Michael Kors to name a few… But she was bang-on-trend at January’s Golden Globes in Zac Posen’s backless oxblood gown. Let’s hope there’s more of the same in 2014 for Naomi!

Kerry Washington
3. Kerry Washington

She’s already been crowned Queen of the red carpet this year, so trying to narrow down Kerry Washington’s best looks is near impossible. Even her alter-ego Olivia Pope slays at every fictional DC event… If it has to be chosen? It would be her breathtaking Giles gown at January’s Django Unchained premiere in London. Complimented by perfect hair and make up (an inspired shade of plum on the lips), and those crisp white pumps make it one of Kerry’s best efforts in 2013. Hands down.

Nicole Kidman
2. Nicole Kidman

When Nicole gets it right, she gets it RIGHT. Still riding at the top of the best dressed list after a flawless award season, she showcased it all at 2013’s Cannes Film Festival. From personal favourite, L’Wren Scott all the way to classic Chanel – not to mention the beautiful lace Valentino gown that was rumoured to have been Anne Hathaway’s original Oscar dress. Her impeccable Cannes wardrobe set the bar in May, along with the equally impeccable styling… and that opening ceremony mid-calf bespoke Dior gown was to die for.

Jennifer Lawrence
1. Jennifer Lawrence

Saving every red carpet, one Dior gown at a time… 2013 has undoubtably been the ‘Year Of JLaw’. She started the year on a high; winning awards left right and centre, and topping almost every best dressed list. She ended it in the same fashion, with an equally impressive wardrobe as she promoted ‘Catching Fire’ all over Europe. The real winner, however, was always going to be the incredibly gorgeous ivory Dior gown that surely catapulted her into Iconic Oscar Dress territory.
