Matthew McConaughey to star in Interstellar and Magic Mike XXL this year: A preview

Fresh from winning an Oscar for his role in the highly acclaimed Dallas Buyers Club, Matthew McConaughey is about to star in two more blockbusting films later this year. McConaughey will take lead roles in both Interstellar and Magic Mike XXL, with both films highly anticipated. Interstellar is the new film from Inception genius Christopher Nolan, whilst Magic Mike XXL is the sequel to the Steven Soderbergh-directed Magic Mike, a movie about strippers which gained an enthusiastic response from both critics and audiences on its release in 2012. Here we preview both films and Matthew McConaughey’s roles in them.

A star reborn

After many years being stuck in the world of mediocre romantic comedies, McConaughey has had something of a career renaissance. Magic Mike kicked off a series of interesting roles which have allowed him to properly show off his acting chops, culminating in his brilliant performance in Dallas Buyers Club, which won him the biggest acting prize of all. This year, he’s also been making waves in the HBO series True Detective. This acclaimed drama also stars Woody Harrelson and its complicated narrative and multiple time lines have had people hooked from the first episode. Interstellar

Information about Interstellar is pretty hard to come by, but we do know a few little grains of what the film will be about. Once Christopher Nolan came on board to direct, we heard that the film’s story has its roots in the theories of physicist Kip Thorne. This CalTech professor is known for his work with wormholes, which has suggested that Interstellar will be all about time travel, although the initial trailers neither confirm or contradict this.

The cast is suitably starry, so much so that it’s difficult to know who the lead is. It’s a classic Nolan trademark, right alongside twisty plots. The actors he has lined up for his latest film rivals any that have come before, with a cast featuring Anne Hathaway and Jessica Chastain. Even though it’s difficult to see who’s the lead, the stronger-than-ever Matthew McConaughey will probably take charge, as he’s prominent in the misty-eyed trailer.

Magic Mike XXL

On July 3, 2015, Matthew McConaughey and Channing Tatum’s stripper with a heart of gold will be back in cinemas with a new story after the massive success of the original film back in 2012. In an MTV interview, Channing Tatum revealed that Magic Mike XXL will shift the action from Florida nightclubs to the road. McConaughey will reprise his role of Mike Lane, the older stripper who looks out for Tatum’s young and impressionable Adam. Tatum is quoted as saying of the sequel: “We don’t want to make it a serious, slice-of-life movie. We want reality in it, but we don’t want to make it some dark drama. There was some darkness in the last one, and I think it surprised people and shocked people.”
