Why Our World Would End Without Surf Travel

Surfing is the best thought of as existing in different seasons. Wave riders know they will enjoy superior wind, swell, as well as wave conditions depending on the time of year. Surfers know surfing is the single most amazing and challenging sport on the planet. Every enthusiast knows once you have the surfing fever, the only way to manage it is more board time.

When you first learn to surf and want to plan a surfing adventure by yourself be ready for how challenging it can be. Limited surf know-how or simply modest surf expertise can easily wreck any enjoyment. Keep in mind it might take several weeks before you surf the best destination. The best tide, wave conditions, and the best equipment for you requires some effort on your part.

Embarrassed By Your Surf Travel Skills? Here’s what to do.

The airline ticket in hand and raring to go- but just what are you supposed to take and how do you guarantee that once you arrive the only break you find is the one you want to surf? The number one thing to be taken care of is to find out what is the airline’s surfboard policy.

Each carrier has its own, specific regulations around surfboards. These rules are always changing so check before each trip. Policies exist for all luggage, like weight restrictions and size limits. If you have a longboard, the carrier could outright refuse to check your board completely. Ask any surfer, the worst way to start your surf travel adventure is by leaving your personal board at the flight terminal.

It does not need to be hard!

Not sure what to bring to the beach other than a ton of sunscreen and a huge smile? Packing for a surf vacation is not as daunting a task as you might first think. In fact, what you should bring can be counted on one hand.

1.  At least one Surfboard, the more, the better.

2.  Surf Wax.

3.  A small, inexpensive ding repair kit

4.  Spare fins and board leash

5.  The correct surf wear for the trip

Are we there yet?

There are so many hot surf spots in the states alone that a great deal of research into the surf travel you are looking for must be conducted before heading out to the car, the airport, or the train station. Know what you like and what you need more work on before deciding on just any old beach break.

Mission Beach in San Diego is an exposed beach break with a moderately steady surf. The summer months offer you the ideal conditions for surfing. Groundswells tend to be more prevalent than wind swells with the ideal angle coming in from the southwest. Mission Beach gives both left and right beach breaks. Always check the San Diego surf report to see what kind of waves the day holds in store for you.

In the underestimated surf region of North Florida, you’ll find places like Mayport Poles. This spot offers one of the rare places to catch decent, clean surf. At St. Augustine’s Blowhole and New Smyrna Beach, you will find the most consistent surf destinations in all of Florida.

The Texas coast has two areas of surfable beaches, each within driving distance of international airports. To the north of Houston is the stretch from High Island to the Matagorda Inlet. To the south, out from Corpus Christi, is San Jose (St. Joe’s) Island, Boca Chica, and South Padre Island.

Southern New England (Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and Connecticut) offers a countless diversity of waves, weather, and experiences. Massachusetts claims a long surfable coastline without the jam-packed lineups characteristic of Rhode Island and New Hampshire.
