4 New(ish) Bands for 2013

Inevitably, with a new year comes a new list of ‘tipped for the top’ musicians and artists who are ‘set to soundtrack’ the next twelve months. Often these ‘rising stars’ burn out before the year is through; and so I’ve brought you the definitive guide to the acts with staying power.

1. Anavae: This London based band are currently putting the finishing touches to their second EP; having already released Into The Aether last year. Extremely underrated, their alternative rock sound is a product of pure talent and a willingness to experiment. Unlike anything on ‘the scene’ at the moment (don’t even mention Paramore) Anavae are racking up the credentials; having been featured in Kerrang, supported Kids In Glass Houses and partaken in The Weekender Tour back in September, all whilst maintaining full-time jobs and education. Most exciting of all; they’ve just been signed to LAB Records so expect to be hearing a lot more from them soon.

2. VersaEmerge: Previously an alternative rock band; their latest effort, due out early this year, promises another sound altogether. You may recognise Sierra Kusterbeck from that duet with Professor Green, but her powerful vocals are at their best when alongside bandmate Blake Harnage. Due to rise up in a new direction, VersaEmerge have made this list because with a space themed electro rock album entitled Another Atmosphere in the pipeline, it’s like they’ve become a different band altogether. No longer Warped Tour fodder, it will be interesting to watch what unfolds as this creative duo tackle an arguably mainstream direction.
