2013: The Year For Movie Sequels

3) The Hunger Games: Catching Fire
UK release date: 22nd November 2013
If you’ve read The Hunger Games trilogy, then the first film may not have reached your expectations; rated only a 12, it lacked violence, brutality and gore. But despite this the film was still a huge success and the second film, along with a new director, doesn’t look as if it will disappoint! The film follows the continuing adventures of Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) and Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson) as they compete in the Quarter Quell against fellow previous winners of the Hunger Games.

2)  Kick-Ass 2
UK release date: 19th July 2013
Kick-Ass, released in the year 2010, wasn’t your typical superhero comedy; Aaaron Taylor-Johnson played the nerdy Dave Lizewski who transformed himself into a crime-fighting superhero with the help of a wetsuit and sheer determination. This sequel looks set to follow him in his escapades as he fights against his revenge-ridden rival, played by Christopher Mintz-Plasse (that’s McLovin from Superbad to most). Look out for an appearance from the brilliant Jim Carrey, too.

1) Monsters University
UK release date: 23rd July 2013
Okay, so this film is technically more of a prequel rather than a sequel. But nonetheless, anything from the genius minds at Disney and Pixar is sure to be incredible. The film takes place before the days where Mike (voiced by Billy Crystal ) and Sully (voiced by John Goodman) were working at the Scare Factory, but were instead attending the University of Fear, where they weren’t exactly the best of friends. Despite hesitations over the plot, Disney Pixar are one of the few creators which always get their sequels spot on (Toy Story 2 and 3 anyone?!) so this is sure to be a hit!
