Interview with Charlotte Eriksson aka The Glass Child

It must have been daunting; what were your low lights/highlights of your travels?

In the beginning the hardest part was to just learn how to live alone. I didn’t know anyone when I came here and I was so lonely, but that taught me how to live with myself and trust myself. Then also to learn how to deal with the music-industry, to get rejections and bad opinions and how to not let it bring you down. That was really hard for me in the beginning because I wanted to please everyone, but you just have to learn that everyone is not going to get you or like what you do. You just have to learn to be so strong in yourself that people’s opinions don’t get to you.

Would it be fair to say that your experiences have influenced your music?

Definitely. I write my music about things I’m thinking about and that I need to deal with, so it’s all about things I see and learn and feel.

You’ve got quite a fandom growing out there; what’s the craziest thing a fan has ever given you/done?

Once a girl wanted me to sign her boob. That was quite interesting… No they’re all so lovely to me and I still can’t believe that someone even likes what I do. I’ll never take it for granted. And as an independent artist like me, with no one else involved, my fans are the only reason to why I can do what I love.

What bands/artists are you a fan of?

So many bands! Just to name a few, I love Brand New, Trevor Hall, Valencia, Ani Difranco, Bon Iver and Counting Crows. Exactly right now I’m listening to Bright Eyes.

Finally, where do you want The Glass Child to go?

I just want to create true and honest art and connect with people. I want to make other people feel the same way that I feel when I hear a song or read something that connects somewhere inside and just kind of fits perfectly in your life. I just want to write my own story and build my own life on art and beautiful things. But right now I want to tell the world as loud as possible about my new single Who Am I!
