A Fashionable Sister Act

Whilst Bonnie Tyler screams out that she’s “holding out for a hero” in the shape of a handsome man, I’m holding out for a fashion hero. Someone who will let me jump aboard their ship and sail through endless trends and high tides of criticism. Someone, or rather a group of people, whose style will make me think ‘yes, I need their wardrobe’. For most young women like myself, it’s hard to find a fashion icon the same age who have maintained such a great track record of attitude and of course, wardrobe during their career. Some of my fashion heroes are Gwen Stefani, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen and Kate Bosworth because they have always been known as bona fide fashonista’s. But there are lengthy lists as long as the Great Wall of China for most other young women when it comes to fashion inspiration and ‘heroes’. However, an all-girl group has emerged from America and are now named my ultimate fashion heroes because of their approach to style and fashion.

Haim are a three-piece girl group consisting of members Este, Danielle and Alana – who are all sisters with the surname, of course, Haim. Their music has been loved all over the world from Los Angeles, California (where the band are from and formed) from here in the UK because of their folk-like melodies combined with their R&B beats. Radio 1 and NME have named Haim as the band to “look out for in 2012 and 2013”, calling them the next big thing and it seems as though their career as a great band is only just getting started. After supporting bands like Mumford and Sons and Florence and the Machine, Haim have received such a steady praise over here in the UK and when they start touring as a headlining band – they know that they will get some serious welcoming!

Not only is their music catchy as hell, but also their attitude is exemplary – like their style. These all-American ladies know how to dress well. Their mixing of heavy jackets, denim shirts and jumpers with dainty dresses and tough boots is the way to go this season -thanks to Haim.

Their eclectic style is something that should be adored. Women who are in their early twenties, like Haim, are almost getting one step ahead when it comes to shopping on the high street. This is because most retailers like Topshop, Miss Selfridge and ASOS aim at a younger target audience in their mid-teens through to their early thirties. Bow down to the trio sent down from music and fashion heaven and have a victory dance in celebration that there really are well-dressed young women out there!
