Colour Crush Winter

So bright colours are usually a given during the Spring/Summer Fashion week season, right? The Summer Couture and Resort shows also provide a substantial amount of colour ‘oomph’ to their collections. It’s been explored slightly, perhaps dabbled with on the Autum/Winter catwalk, but never really fully embraced.

The model in the above picture at first glance could easily be mistaken for being a  part of a Spring/Summer catwalk show in her daring orange-red ensemble of lightweight crop tailored trousers and her (definitely lightweight) pvc raincoat. She is, however, part of Topshop’s Autum/Winter 2013 collection, which also included many other vibrant looks similar to this.

Spotted in shows from Simone Rocha to Burberry, it would seem that the brights and bolds of Spring/Summer have made their way into the winter collections, with acid yellows, summer reds, mint greens and 50 shades of pink dominating the catwalks of Fashion Week’s (London Fashion Week is underway as we speak don’tcha know) from New York, Milan, Paris and London. The oxblood, plum and navy tones of last season are facing the wrath of the new ‘it’ look: Bright Colour.

As I skim through the latest collections bought to us this Fashion Week, there is a definite recurrance of this trend amongst the traditional dark and smouldering wintery shades. The question is- are they winter-weather friendly? And are you brave enough to wear them?
