Change your viewing genre

When you go to the cinema, there’s often the tendency to watch similar kinds of films. You may be an action movie fan or only ever go and see rom-coms. While the whole idea of going to the movies is to be entertained and enjoy yourself, occasionally it can be worthwhile to take yourself out of your viewing comfort zone and try something a little different.

However this can feel like a bit of a risk; there’s a chance you may be disappointed with the film you’ve chosen, simply because you’ve picked something different. A great way to avoid making this kind of mistake is to watch the Oscar nominee films. You know that these films are going to be good and although they may not be exactly to your taste, at least you know that they’ve got enough critical acclaim to be rated by the Academy Award.

This year’s list of Oscar nominees is wide and varied. For example, you might not usually choose to watch a film about hunting down Osama Bin Laden, but when Jessica Chastain looks like she’s going to take Best Actress for the part, then maybe Zero Dark Thirty is worth a try? Start off by looking up a clip on Cineworld Facebook, to see if it sparks your interest or not.

Then, of course, there’s the historical epic Lincoln. It’s a Spielberg blockbuster, but if you’re not usually into watching historical dramas, you may not have thought to see it. Similarly, Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained is another film that lovers of comedies may not choose easily, but it’s fascinating nonetheless.

Of course Oscars night is getting pretty close so you won’t find that all the movies are still on at the big screen. If you’re going to the cinema in London, you should find them all showing somewhere.

Leave your favourite movies to one side next time you go to the cinema and you may open your eyes to a whole new viewing genre!
