Regular Soda or Diet Soda: Which One Is Better For You

It is a common belief among people that one kind of carbonated drink is healthier and better than the other. While there is a lot of information regarding the benefits of sweeteners it is somehow easier to provide justification for your choice. So which one is really better diet or regular? Let us compare the two.

Pros and Cons of Regular Soda

Pros: It has a good taste.

Cons: The regular soda is rich in sugar which can cause an increase in the blood sugar levels and this in turn can lead to high blood pressure, diabetes, weight gain, heart disease, premature aging and insulin resistance. Regular intake of soda can erode the tooth enamel and harm your bones. It can increase your chances of osteoporosis and can even cause severe gastritis.

That is pretty much heavily weighted by looking at the negative side. Let us now take a look at diet soda.

Pros and Cons of Diet Soda

Pros: It tastes good.

Cons: Diet soda does not increase your sugar levels but it consists of many harmful chemicals that include aspartame. Aspartame has been used in order to replace HFCS i.e. High fructose corn syrup. Aspartame is known to have many adverse effects on your body. It can lead to memory loss, migraines, numbness, seizures and a tingling sensation in legs and arms. It may also cause severe anxiety, depression, aggression and irritability. It may also affect your digestive tract by causing diarrhea, nausea, abdominal pain and vomiting. You may also experience PMS, menstrual changes, weight gain, thinning of hair and blindness.

It seems like there is a tie and we have no winner. Both diet soda as well as regular soda are bad for our health.

Is it good to have soda?

Yes, if you are all stuck in the desert then drinking soda seems to be the only option to remain alive. But otherwise it is not a good idea to consume it by pouring in all that sugar and chemicals in your body which can do more harm than good. It is better to go for the other healthy choices that are available in the market.

Will it quench your thirst?

The good old water is all that your body ever requires in order to quench your thirst. If you wish to add some flavor then it is better to try drinking unsweetened iced tea with a dash of some natural fruit juice or prepare a smoothie from milk that is free from fats. You will be amazed to know how great you can feel by kicking off that soda addiction.

The Mountain Dew video that recently aired shows a guy taking a 200 feet plunge from a crane to a ball balloon that is filled with the sugar free mountain dew. Mountain dew has come up with a variety of products that include sugar free versions of alternative and classic flavors which can leave you spoilt for choice while deciding to choose a refreshing drink. It is loaded with about 118 calories for a 250 ml bottle and only 2 calories for the sugar free version.
