Water sports for everyone

Are you heading to the sun-kissed island of Crete for your cheap, all inclusive holiday this year? Then there’s loads of fun awaiting you.

If the sunshine makes you want to spend most of your time in the warm waters of the Mediterranean – or the hotel swimming pool – then there’s a lots to keep you occupied.

At the pool

At many of the hotel pools you can enjoy some form of aqua aerobics. It’s not as strenuous as it sounds as the water supports your body, but you get a good workout nevertheless.

Some pools offer water polo which is effectively handball in the water. It’s a team sport, so play nicely now.

Or of course you could resort to using your body to propel you from one end of the pool to the other. It’s an old fashioned concept called swimming.

In the Sea

If you want the help of a motor, then engage in some jet skiing. Take note of how they work and then you’re off, whoosh. You’ll have a great sense of speed and power as you whip up the waters.

Or brave a touch of water skiing. Expect to spend a lot of the time in the water unless you’ve done it before. You need to have strong core and upper body muscles for this one.

Take the easy way out and climb aboard a banana boat with others and speed through the sea on this inflatable. Remember the captain of the speed boat in front will try to overturn your ‘boat’ so that you enjoy the deep blue!

If you prefer to take a chance on the wind, then a spot of wind-surfing is fun. You’ll need good balance and of course a substantial breeze to get anywhere.

Make it arm power and take a turn in a kayak and see Crete from the sea. There are lots of kayaking tours on offer where you’re in the hands of expert guides.

If you have a fascination for what lies beneath, then Crete also has a number of scuba diving centres. If you’re experienced no problem, otherwise book yourself on a beginner’s dive or take some lessons. But most importantly enjoy yourself at Crete holidays.
