On the Rise: Purple Ferdinand

East London bred singer Purple Ferdinand has been building up her own quiet storm in the music scene over the past couple of years.

I first came across her on Tumblr (thank you tumblr gawds) and I was intrigued by this tatted beauty who happened to have a Youtube channel, which was where I soon discovered her acoustic covers and melodic original songs and I was instantly a fan.

I went to see her perform at a gig in Islington last year and the room literally rushed from the back where the bar was and down to the front of the stage to get a good ear and eye for Ferdinand to come on. The room was silently in awe and sung along to a few of her cover versions of popular songs. She really brings a very intimate and subdued (in a good way) vibe when she sings.

She’s also been a busy woman, hitting the Afro Punk festival last year (screams), if you follow her on Tumblr you’d also know she was away in Canada for a bit working on some new music! Most recently, she’s performed for Hunger TV, BBC Radio 1 Extra and a variety of other UK based media publications and taking to the stage to perform set’s for events such as Book Slam (2012), and she will also be at this year’s Lovebox plus supporting Mikky Ekko at XOYO in July and at this year’s Wireless Festival! Yikes! The girl is busy and rightly so, she really is a breath of fresh air.

Check out her song and great visual for ‘Beautiful Anomaly’, Secret Sessions performance of ‘Blind For You,’ and most recently as a treat for fans of her music she released ‘Define Me,’ via Soundcloud.

Definitely one to watch for 2013 and onward!
