It’s one of the hardest decisions that a student has to make, whether to have an afternoon nap or not. A question which in future I will always answer with ‘Yes’.
Picture the scene, it’s Sunday afternoon and you are very tired. A decision has to be made, to nap or not. Imagine if you will, you decide that it would just be better to have an early night instead.
So it gets to 9:00pm and you have to be in uni at 9:00am in the morning, so decide that it is a reasonable time to go to bed. Only, as you are getting ready you hear a bleep… I had no idea what it was that made the bleep but decided that it was probably just my laptop. But then when I heard it again and again and again I had a look around to see if I could find out what it was. After a few minutes of searching it became evident that it was the smoke alarm. After a few minutes of Googling I discovered that it was probably a low battery.
Now, if this was my own flat I would simply have taken a stick to the alarm in order to shut it up, but seeing as it is not mine this wasn’t really an option. Not being very experienced with smoke alarms I decided that it was probably for the best if I did not touch it – mainly for fear of accidentally setting it off and causing the whole building to be evacuated. Given that it was a cold wet night I don’t think that that would have made me very popular.
So there you have it. I had to get through a whole night with the incessant (and very loud) bleeping every three minutes. Needless to say I was not in the best of moods at uni the next day. But there is a moral to this story and that is:
NEVER say no to an afternoon nap.
