Food for Thought – Upbeat Eating

So we’ve survived the January blues and Spring is upon us! Not feeling so spring? Still stuck in a rut? Fear not, its never too late to start changing your eating and there are some simple foods that will have you feeling fabulous in no time:

1. Water, water, water

We cannot think straight if we are dehydrated! Water keeps hunger at bay while making sure our body is functioning properly.  While water doesn’t have any magical effect on weight loss, substituting it for higher calorie beverages can certainly help. Water is good for the skin too and gives you that natural glow. Keep a bottle of water with you in your car, at your desk, or in your bag. Its now your new best friend!

2. Veggies

Nice fresh vegetables bulk up any meal and keep you feeling fuller for longer. For instance, Spinach is a leafy green and it packed with folic acid, a B vitamin that has been found to boost your mood. It’s also an antioxidant that works to protect your brain cells from free radicals, which can lead to low energy and mood swings. Feeling blue? Eat Green!

3. Greek Yoghurt

Besides its thick, creamy texture,  due to straining out much of the whey that’s in typical yogurt, Greek yogurt boasts an abundance of vitamins and minerals as well as healthy probiotics and nourishing protein. Add it to a fresh fruit salad with some crunchy granola for a tasty feel good snack.

4. Chicken

This white meat contains a vitamin called B12  that helps calm your bod. Not having enough B12 can make us moody and tired. Beat the bad mood, try white meat instead of fattier options.

5. Dark chocolate

Saving the best for last, who says you can’t have a little choccy and still feel great? Not only is it delicious, dark chocolate has a lot of magnesium which reduces and anxiety and relaxes our muscle. It also contains tryptophan, which helps reduce symptoms of depression.

Adopt these simple changes to your diet and you’ll feel like taking on the world…
