Travel Trends for 2021

With many of 2020’s trips and events cancelled because of the pandemic, many of us are eager to hit the road and/or skies in 2021. As we close 2020 and ring in the New Year, many of us will make resolutions. Some of the most popular resolutions are, of course, losing weight, exercising more, and writing that book that you have been dreaming about since college. However, this year, there will be many with an increased need for some wanderlust. If you are interested in travelling in 2021, check out these trends and tips geared toward getting you back on the road again.

2021 Travel Trends

  • Heading for More Outdoors Adventures

Adventure travel used to be for just the youthful backpackers and gap year folks. However, the pandemic revitalised the outdoor adventure industry. And, in 2021, that is not going to slow down. With families, couples, and even solo travellers looking for a safe way to travel, the open outdoors is the answer. If you are planning an outdoor getaway in 2021, remember that you need to be prepared for the outdoors, which means weather and terrain. Thus, the outdoor apparel industry will continue to grow. Shoppers will be looking for good quality hiking boots, light-weight backpacks, and durable rain gear. If you are planning to travel internationally or outside of your province, state, or county, make sure to check out how Covid-19 has changed the travel rules and regulations. You may need to get a test prior to travel or quarantine.

  • On the Road Again

With travel restrictions loosening in 2021 with the availability of the vaccines, there will still be many that are reluctant to fly or use mass-transit. So in 2021, road trips will be one of the most popular ways to get away from your home, neighbourhood, and town. Although many think of their childhood family road trips, the road trip in 2021 can be much more fun, modern, and customised. Depending on your vehicle and your travel companions, you can choose to theme your road trip. Think of a culinary road trip stopping at outdoor cafes or local markets for picnic items. Another idea is a flora and fauna nature-themed road trip. Regardless of how you road trip, having a good Smartphone for navigation is a must. Don’t worry about breaking the bank. You can easily buy a used iPhone 7. Some of the apps like Maps.me and others work even where wi-fi and phones don’t work.

  • Seeking Alternative Accommodations

Even though many will select embracing the outdoors and road trips in 2021, that doesn’t mean that everyone is going to pitch a tent or sleep in their camper van. Granted there will be some, but the majority of travellers will opt for alternative accommodations that are safer than traditional options. The time of making a reservation at your favourite hotel chain will come back again, but in 2021 travellers are looking for safer more private accommodations. Some of the popular stays will be private rentals of both homes, small cottages, cabins, and other unique accommodations such as yurts, bungalows, and more.

This year, resolve to get back on the road again. Travel is one of the best ways to learn about the world as well as yourself. Embrace these travel trends for 2021. Get on with planning your trip, purchasing the right gear, and booking the right accommodations for you.
