Like women, men have to find their inspiration from somewhere, or more importantly: someone, so both Joe and Max answered easily when I asked them who inspired them. Jamie T, Faris Badwan, Alex Turner and Hugo Taylor were the list of people that Max gave, whilst Joe was on a similar wavelength with his list including Freddie from The Vaccines, ASAP Rocky and Marcus Mumford.
When I asked Joe why those particular people inspired him, he simply said: “If I can see certain clothes on them, then I can see it on me.”
The choices of clothes that men have on the high street is rapidly growing and is becoming equally as popular as women’s fashion, but it hasn’t always been this way. The menswear departments for stores like H&M and Topshop have always been half the size of their women’s, but collaborations with designers and famous people within menswear in High Street stores are helping menswear fashion to become better known.
Taking for example David Beckham’s Body Wear campaign for H&M. The simplicity within his nightwear and underwear range is inspiring men to start thinking a little more outside the box with fashion. So in relation to this, I asked the guys where they shop because every person styles themselves slightly different. For three and a half years, I worked at H&M, which is where I met Joe and Max, so it didn’t come to much of a surprise to me that both of them shop mainly at H&M for their affordable staple items. Max told me he also shops in ASOS, Zara and Urban Outfitters, then looks in Charity Shops and eBay as well, whereas Joe is into skate brands like Palace and Supreme.
Finally, I asked Joe and Max what would be the ‘next big thing’ when it comes to menswear fashion and surprisingly, they said very similar things: jackets. Max opted for the leather jacket to make a comeback, while Joe said blazers because of their versatility.
“I’m getting a grey, tweed blazer. It can go with practically anything you want for any occasion: work, school or party.” So men everywhere, take note: leather jackets and blazers for every occasion are the garments to look out for this season. Take it from these two, they know their stuff!
