RELEASE DATE: 28th June
STARRING: James Franco, Seth Rogen, Jonah Hill, Jay Baruchel, Emma Stone
FIRST THOUGHTS: This Is the End is absolutely crammed with comedic talent. Anyone who’s anyone is part of this project – Franco, Rogen, Hill, Rudd, Cera, Segel, McBride, Baruchel, Ansari, Stone, we could go on. The best part is that they’re all playing themselves, yep you read right! The plot follows these celebrities as they’re faced with the end of the world whilst partying at James Franco’s house. We’re expecting raunchy jokes, lots of stoner humour and some Michael Bay-esque special effects. The film is still in production so not a whole lot is known aside from the teaser trailer released last month and there are rumours of further cameos from the likes of Rihanna so definitely watch this space!
VERDICT: POSSIBLY SEE IN THE CINEMA/WAIT FOR MORE INFORMATION
THE WORLD’S END
RELEASE DATE: 14th August
STARRING: Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Paddy Considine, Martin Freeman, Eddie Marsan
FIRST THOUGHTS: Anything America can do, we can do better? On paper, The World’s End looks like a British version of the film above but this apocalyptic caper is based off of a book and is actually a very different idea. The film is about a group of mates who set about completing a pub crawl they started a long time ago. Unbeknownst to their inebriated selves, the end of the world is happening around them. This is the first time the winning trio of Wright, Pegg and Frost has united since the mock police procedural Hot Fuzz, which is near-on 6 years ago. To add to that, you’ve got Bilbo Baggins himself, Martin Freeman, and the always fantastic Paddy Considine and Eddie Marsan. I’m going to put my neck out and say this will be the best comedy of the year.
VERDICT: MUST SEE IN THE CINEMA
