Now Trending : Modern Military

As the winter months dawn on us, there is one thing we can still be passionate about : Autumn/Winter trends. One of my favourite up and coming trends is the Modern Military look. The shapes are controlled and well thought out rather than free-falling and shapeless. Studs, spikes and sequins are incorporated with the Military trend to avoid repetition.  The colour palette  focuses on khaki, black and brown. If you can’t afford the Alexander Wang or Rag and Bone versions, affordable high-street retailers such as Topshop and Zara have displayed fitted parka jackets, army print coats and studded T-shirts. Black ankle boots have been in high demand alongside this trend also which gives us the excuse to purchase a new pair of winter boots! Topshop have presented multiple versions of the studded ankle boot to suit different tastes.

Topshop Studded Leather Boots

Another best seller from this trend is the Military jacket. This can simply demonstrate an army print or incorporate leather on the sleeves, pockets or collars. Again, Topshop have presented a more affordable option for the high street shopper. However, detailed tailored jackets are definitely becoming a thing of the Autumn/Winter trend. Topshop is a good high-street brand to rely on for current trends as their collection uses items that are inspired straight from the catwalk, keeping you up to date on a regular basis.

Topshop Khaki Leather/Military Jacket

You may be thinking to yourself, ‘Military clothes are masculine and over whelming’, but as long as you team key pieces such as parka jackets and ankle boots with figure flattering pieces you’ll have a complimentary outfit. Wet-look leggings are key to this mantra as they protect you from being swamped by larger pieces, whilst keeping you on trend.

Give the Modern Military trend a go. Just remember these top tips:

  • Stick to the colour palette – Khaki, black and brown
  • Don’t chose shapes that are too overwhelming and shapeless. If you do chose statement jackets and coats, ensure your bottom half is showcasing something more fitted to show your shape
  • Black ankle boots compliment any Military look
  • Remember this look can be as structured as you desire – try a neat bun in your hair for a sophisticated version
