Leather Chic

This autumn, we’re set to see a 90’s grunge revival, and of course, this means leather is sure to return as the latest autumn/winter trend for 2012. Most of us have the classic leather biker hanging in our wardrobes, but be prepared to face more than just the simple jacket this season. The brave hearted can try head to toe leather, as seen at Proenza Schouler, Topshop Unique and Alexander Wang. This take on the trend is obviously not for the fainthearted, as there’s a very fine line between chic and cheap looking when wearing top to toe leather. To avoid looking like the next Catwoman, try mixing hues and fabrics to create a more separated look.

But for the less gutsy, the best way to approach leather is by sticking to one item of leather at a time. Avoid over styling by pairing a leather midi skirt or pair of trousers with a fail-safe white tee. Why not try dressing down a pair of leather shorts with a candy coloured knit – the softness of the knitted fabric balances out the severity of leather, thus creating a more everyday, relaxed vibe.

Of course, the easiest way to incorporate leather into your wardrobe is in the footwear department. The perfect leather boots are essential during the chilly winter months and the perfect pair will last you a decade. Forget stiletto thin heels, it’s all about chunky, block heeled boots this season.

Think you’re too girly to pull off this tough trend? Fear not, the high street is full of clothes that subtly incorporate leather, thus making it easier for girliest of girls to jump aboard the latest autumn trend .For example, 2012 has seen a modern update of the classic camo jacket, with the integration of leather sleeves, which has turned out to be a huge hit. With nearly every shop stocking the popular jacket at a range of prices to suit every budget, where you can either splurge Zara and Topshop or save at Primark, it’s pipsqueak to get your hands on the hottest item of the autumn.
