Crochet is the summer way!

Fashion trends work well when the material of the garment in question is perhaps a little bit abstract. Take for example the foil-resembling skater skirts from online fashion giants ASOS or even the neon mesh crop tops from our beloved Topshop. Whatever the weather, or in this case the trend, we can be sure that there will be something a little bit weird or unusual that gets out fashion clock ticking.

Derived from the French word for ‘hook’, crochet is one of the trends that we need to get our hands on this summer for sure. The lightness of the material means that it’ll be perfect in any way possible – especially in dresses. Whilst crochet wasn’t star performer in this seasons fashion shows, it seems as though it might make a small outburst of summer freshness that we all desire.

ASOS have the best range of crochet dresses from smocks to babydolls starting at £25, perfect for the cursed student budget. But what about colour? Crochet is best when it’s either black or white because that way – you’re getting the best wear out of your new favourite dress.

Festival season is steadily gaining on us and what better way to example your fine fashion taste with crochet! The black crochet dresses on ASOS and Topshop are perfect for those sunny days watching great acts. I’ve mentioned before that white at a festival, unless in a t-shirt, is a no go – so it’s best to steer clear from the pristine white for a muddy field.

The best thing about crochet dresses isn’t the fact that it’s so in season right now, but how versatile it is. You can dress them up with wedges and a heavily jewelled necklace, and dress them down with a bowler hat and heavy black boots – very Coachella indeed!

Whatever the occasion, holiday or weekend away you’ve been planning for months – make a last minute, fashion conscious decision and throw in a brand new crochet dress. I promise you, you will not regret it this summer!
