Tips for Getting Your Home Ready

Moving into a brand new home or apartment can be really expensive, regardless of whether you’re renting or you’ve bought yourself a new home. It’s an exciting time, but it can often be weighed down by surprise costs which get in the way of you enjoying your new place and can leave you feeling really stressed. Moving is expensive, there’s no doubt about it, but there are ways you can minimise your costs (and stress). Here are some of our favourite tips for getting your home ready without breaking the bank.

1) Shop for Appliances Online

Buying appliances online is great for a number of reasons, but the main benefit is that you will save money. Online stores simply do not have as many overheads as a physical store, and as such, can offer significant discounts directly to the customer – saving you money. The second benefit of shopping online is that you wont have to worry about transport issues, your appliances will be delivered directly to your door. Many online stores carry a greater inventory of products, so you can have a greater range to select from, ensuring you find the appliance you really want at a great price.

2) Hit up Garage Sales

You’ll be surprised when you move into a new home, especially if it’s your first, how many things you need. Little things like rubbish bins, laundry baskets and dishwater. These bits and pieces quickly add up to a lot, especially if you choose to buy them new. Visiting garage (or yard) sales allows you to find little bits and pieces that will make your home feel more homely without withering away your money too much.

3) Rally Your Friends to Help Move

Not only is moving expensive, it’s hard work moving. No body really enjoys moving day, but once everything is moved in there’s nothing better than relaxing in your new home. Asking friends and family help is a great way to make the day run a lot smoother. Check around to see if anyone has a truck or trailer you can use, in order to save money on moving costs. Once you’ve figured out the logistics of how you’re going to get your things from one place to another, make sure you have enough friends and family helping you physically move the stuff too. There’s nothing worse than under estimating the job ahead of you and finding yourself completely worn out and running out of time to move things. So utilise keen friends and family who are prepared to help you move into your new home.
