Updating your street style for winter

The popularity of urban wear has rapidly grown in 2013. The summer was awash with snapbacks and football jerseys and, while we would love to still be wearing them, they simply aren’t practical for the colder months. That doesn’t mean you have to swap your street style for granddad knits and slippers yet though – here’s how to make your hip hop wardrobe winter ready!

The Hat

While the snapback was great for completing our street style in the warmer months, it simply won’t cut it when the temperature drops. This season, the snapback has been swapped for the much more practical, yet equally as stylish beanie hat.

When you think of a beanie hat, chances are you think of a boring, plain black number that is standard issue for people who work outdoors. However, the beanie has been revamped for 2013 and is available in a range of colours, styles and designs. Your beanie should make a statement, so go for a brightly coloured one that will revitalise even the dullest of winter days.

The Sweat

With everyone from Tinie Tempah to Pharrell wearing them, no urban wardrobe would be complete without a classic sweatshirt. Perfect for throwing on for a trip to the pub or chilling out with mates, the sweatshirt is a great alternative to chunky knits that can leave you and your style feeling stifled.

Go for a sweatshirt with an eye-catching slogan or logo to keep your look fresh and a reflection of your personality. We love Capology’s great range of King Apparel sweatshirts – our favourite is the warriors crew. This sweatshirt ticks all of the boxes with its on-trend burgundy colour, fashionable elbow patches and stand-out ‘The Kings’ slogan.

The Coat

When things turned a little cooler in the summer, we simply threw on a hoody to block out the chill. A hoody won’t be enough to combat the rain, wind and snow the next few months will usher in, so it is vital to invest in a good coat.

Parkas are everywhere this season, from runways to high streets, so you should have no trouble finding one to suit. Make sure you opt for one with a thick, fleecy lining for additional warmth. Throw it on over a sweatshirt and jeans, and team with a beanie and hi-tops for a look that is both stylish and ready to take on whatever the winter throws at us.
