New York – The City that Never Sleeps

New York, situated in the United States, is one of the most famous and populated cities in the world. Known as a global city of power, New York is at the epicentre of fashion, finance and technology. The city is also a significant centre for international diplomacy as it is home to the headquarters of the United Nations.

The city of New York offers a host of tourist attractions and cannot be appropriately covered within a few days. With numerous museums, landmarks, shopping centres, markets and eateries, the city provides a plethora of entertainment options even for the most discerning traveller.

Situated at Ellis Island, the Statue of Liberty is one of the most famous icons of peace in the world. The structure is over 90m in height and was built with several tons of copper over a period of 20 years. Visitors will have to take a ferry ride to the landmark and will have to go through an intense screening process. Although there is no admission charge, tourists will have to book tickets a year in advance if they want to access the crown, which is the topmost part of the structure.

The Brooklyn Bridge is one of the recognisable icons of New York and inaugurated in the late 1880s. The structure is regarded as an architectural marvel and has undergone extensive renovations to withstand the increase in traffic and climatic changes. The bridge has a section cordoned off as a walkway and path for cyclists.

 

Money and Costs

Although the United States economy has been unstable for a while, a visit to New   York City can still be expensive. One of the best options for accommodation is to stay with a friend or relative as a decent room in a hotel in the city may cost more than $200. To lower the costs, tourists can look for rooms in some of the areas that are less trendy such as New Jersey or Brooklyn.

New York offers cheap and efficient public transportation with taxis, buses and the subway. The city offers innumerable eateries, restaurants and diners of various cuisines to suit the palate of every tourist.
