The never ending search to find the perfect hairstyle…

Girls, I don’t know about you, but when I finally decide to get my hair cut I always have the voice in my head screaming ‘Do something drastic. Be daring. Be different. Stop being so damn boring.’

I have always had long wavy/curly hair, rarely strayed away from the same cut and style and after a while it gets a bit boring. So when I call up my usual hairdresser saying I finally have the funds for a cut and colour I go straight to google to search ‘latest hair styles.’

Over the past three years at university I have tried…

The Cheryl Cole: I’m pretty sure many women have tried this look. I decided just before I started University I would cut the majority of my hair to go for her short, no extensions look. Although It didn’t look bad on me, due to the wavy and curly nature of my hair, it looked way shorter than I intended. This resulted me in trying to try hairstyles to jazz it up a bit, such as fish tale plaits which wouldn’t work due to it being too short. Damn.

Ombre: I tried the ombre towards the end of my first year at Uni after my Cheryl Cole look grew out and I had luscious locks again. This was when the trend was first popping up with bloggers and I was really intrigued by it. Funnily enough by hairdresser didn’t really know what ombre was, so she had to guess. This resulted in the first go being only marginally lighter than my roots, so she had to do it twice. Looking back I would have liked to have kept the ombre a bit longer, but being me of course after a few months I wanted something different.

Bronze: Colour change again, the ombre had to go. Lucky for me, my hairdresser was in training for Saks in Covent Garden. So I got this change for free. Winner. I popped into an evening class with my sister and we both went for a cut and colour. I have always wanted a red tinge to my hair, all my friends would probably argue that I always have had a red colour to my hair. But of course I wont listen and I’m blinded by pretty celebrities with lovely coloured hair. Looking back, this colour wasn’t fantastic for me. In certain lights it looked ginger, but in other lights it looked like a really reddish brown. I think I would have had to keep adding the bronze colour to maintain the colour. Being a student obviously meant my loan went on nights out, rent and monthly clothing allowance. Roots began to show and I eventually went dark brown.

Dark brown: Decided to cut my losses after the bronze fiasco and after being such a low maintenance kind of girl ( I am way to lazy to use products such as spray tan etc) that just going dark brown would be the best option. No fuss needed.

Sun-kissed highlights: I have been dark brown for a while now, I had opted to just go for a trim to get rid of the split ends. Of course, damn google images got me. Plus I’m getting my last installment of my loan soon anyway, time to treat myself (sob). Summer is unlikely to arrive here anyway, so I will spice my hair up. Beach summer hair it is. Highlights. I have found a really nice shoulder length hair style with caramel highlights. Perfect.

I hope to god it suits me.
