Cheap Home Makeovers

Renovating your home can be really expensive, especially when you take into consideration all the labour costs in involved. There’s nothing better than living in a home you’re really happy with and find comfortable, because your house is your sanctuary after all. While renovations remain pretty costly, it’s possible to transform your house into a space you’re really happy with, with a few smart changes. You don’t have to spend a lot to see a big transformation. Here are some of our favourite cheap home makeover tips:

1) Buy a Feature Rug

There are so many gorgeous, modern living room rugs to choose from these days, especially with the Internet opening up a world of options. Rugs can totally transform the look and feel of a room – buying a patterned rug can make the room look a lot more dynamic. Investing in a texture rug can make the room look and feel warmer, especially if it is a non-carpeted room. You can brighten up a hallway with a nice feature rug – there are so many options and with the great variety of rugs you can find one that perfectly suits your home and style.

2) Paint a Feature Wall

Feature walls are a great way to add a splash of colour to a room that might otherwise be lacking. Modern homes tend to be painted in versatile colours of cream and white – which is great if you’re looking to sell your home, but doesn’t make for a very inviting or liveable space. You can go into a paint shop and browse the hundreds of different colours to find one that will achieve the look you desire for your room. Always remember to ask for a tester pot and paint a little strip of the wall in the colour(s) you’re choosing, so that you can make sure they look good with you decor and the nature light in the room before committing to a whole wall.

3) Buy Some Art

Buying art is a great way to transform the room, by strategically hanging paintings or prints in different parts of your house. If you don’t want to invest a lot of money into art, simply ordering a print is a cheaper alternatively to buying an actual painting. You can also browse second-hand stores and garage sales to find secret gems. The great thing about art, is most of it is timeless, so it doesn’t matter how old a painting or print is, if you like it.

4) Hang More Photos

You can never have too many family photos in your home. Well, that’s probably not true, but you’d probably have to cover the walls end to end with photos to overdo it, and that might even look great. Your home should be your special place and what better way to fill it than with photos of those that you love. In this digital world we too often take photos on our cameras and don’t bother to get them printed. So, make a conceded effort to get some of your favourite photos and hang them up around your home to change the atmosphere and to give it a homely feeling.
