By Phillipa Hopwood: Crystal Palace manager Ian Holloway has left the club by mutual consent after just a year in charge.

The Englishman guided Palace to the Premier League last season but now leaves the club in 19th place in the table, five points adrift of safety.

The former Blackpool boss has come under increasing pressure after taking just three points in eight Premier League games since winning promotion through the play-offs last season.

It was announced that Holloway will leave after Crystal Palace called for a press conference earlier today. Co-chairman Steve Parish called the meeting and it is believed the two were locked in talks for over an hour and Holloway offered to resign during the meeting.

The sides win over Sunderland is the London based team’s only win this season, and Sunderland are the only team below them in the table.

Palace’s 4-1 loss to Fulham on Monday Night seemed to be the final straw for Holloway, he spent an hour in the dressing room following that game and now states his reason for leaving is due to him losing the respect of his squad.

Seven defeats in eight games sealed Holloway’s fate as fans were beginning to chant “out, out, out” towards the 50-year-old.

Early bookies favourites include former manager Neil Warnock who has been out of work since leaving Leeds in April, and former Stoke City and Premier League manager Tony Pulis who has out of work since he was sacked by Stoke in May.
