4 Ways to Prepare Your Home Before a Long Trip

Before you leave on a big trip, it is essential that you prepare your home for your departure. This means that you will have to take various different steps in order to ensure that the home is safe, clean, and sound when you are away on your wonderful trip. Whether you are taking a vacation or going to see family, the well-being of your home is of the utmost importance. Here are four ways that you can prepare your home for when you leave on your trip.

De-Clutter

If you haven’t already organised your home with shelving and under the bed storage, you should do so as soon as possible. You can purchase storage containers at your local department store. You should use the shelving in order to store items that would otherwise accumulate as clutter on bookshelves or tabletops. Before you go away on a trip, it is absolutely essential that you get rid of all of your clutter.

You may choose to get rid of your clutter by donating it to it organisation such as the Salvation Army or Goodwill. You may also choose to get rid of your clutter by simply placing it in your new storage containers. As mentioned above, your storage can be in the form of tall shelving from ceiling to floor or within the highest arm’s reach that you can manage. You can also store your storage under the bed. Either way, you should make sure that you don’t have any clutter on your tabletops or surfaces before you leave on your trip.

Cleaning

You should wipe down, spray clean, and sanitise all surfaces before you leave on your trip, including your bathtub faucets. During the time that you are away, you will be surprised to know that your house is going to accumulate a lot of dust.

If you have central air conditioning or you leave the air conditioner on while you leave the home there will be a lot of air blowing around and small particles of dust will settle onto your surfaces. Whether we’re talking about kitchen counters or tabletops in the living room, dust is a reality.

You want to make sure that you dust off all of your surfaces before you leave on your trip so that you won’t have too heavy of a cleaning job when you get back. You should also spray clean your surfaces to keep them free of microbes and bacteria. You can sanitise your surfaces with a sanitising solution, such as bleach. Make sure that you don’t use bleach on porous surfaces like wood furniture.

Set Up Security Cameras

If you keep security cameras around your house, make sure they are on for the duration of your trip. You are able to invest in security cameras that can be linked to your iPhone or Android phone. This means that you can check on your security cameras even when you are away on your trip. You will be able to see the outside of your house and the entrance to your doorway on camera at all times with this technology.

Check on your front door throughout the duration of your trip. Make it a point to check at least twice daily on the cameras to see if any suspicious activity is going on. This is a wonderful technology and you should make the most of it during the time that you are away from home.

Arrange for Pet Care

If you have pets, then you will need to have a way for them to be taken care of while you are away from home. You might want to give a trusted neighbour, family member, loved one, or friend a key to the house so that they can come in twice a day to feed your animal.

If you have a cat, you will need to make sure that they change the litter box. If you have a dog, you will need to make sure that they let your dog out on the leash in order to have a walk twice a day. You might even choose to ask them to stay at the house while you’re gone in order to take full care of your pet.
