Bad habits you need to avoid while dating

Whether you’re new to the dating game or you’ve been in it for a while, there are a few things that every guy and girl should know about dating etiquette. Here are some bad dating habits to avoid:

Being dishonest

When you’re organising meet-ups with several different people, dating can feel like a bit of a game – one where you don’t have to take the rules too seriously. However, don’t be tempted to try to bend the truth to impress any prospective matches. They’ll only find out later that you were dishonest and it’ll put them off. Be genuine from the word go and your dates will respect you for it.

Being disorganised

Keep a record of which dates you have organised, including times, dates, locations – and names! There’s nothing worse than not being sure who you’ve agreed to meet and it’s not exactly attractive for your date to appear forgetful.

Sharing too much

A first date is a time for getting to know one another – but keep it light. If you over share about your bad habits, pet hates and nightmare exes, it’ll only put the other person off wanting to call you again.

Trying too hard

You can’t ever dictate how a first date will go, so don’t try. It helps if you go into things with an open mind and don’t obsess over what might happen too far in advance. You have no way of knowing how well you will get on together so don’t attempt to engineer anything that isn’t happening naturally.

Scrutinising

Although it’s a good idea to sell your good points on your eHarmony profile, a first date shouldn’t feel like a job interview. Try to avoid scrutinising your date – if they can sense you’re sizing them up, they’ll feel uncomfortable and on edge.

Having no clue what to do!

There’s nothing worse than arranging a first date and leaving the location or activity open. If you’re both indecisive, you could be signing yourself up for an hour of awkwardness while you both choose what to do. Keep things simple and choose something you’ll both be familiar with. For example, if you’re dating in Bristol, why not have a stroll around the Harbourside and then take in a drink at one of the waterfront bars?

Dating can take lots of energy and time to get right but by avoiding these habits, you’ll be well on your way to finding someone you really click with. Good luck.
